Sit on the Left side of the plane for the best views on flights from Las Vegas to Zurich. The left side wins overall because the Zurich arrival view of the Swiss Alps and Lake Zurich is one of the most spectacular approach views in Europe. The takeoff right-side advantage is real but shorter-lived; the Alpine arrival scenery on the left is the highlight of the journey.

During takeoff from Mc Carran International (LAS), sit on the Right side for the best views. McCarran's primary departure to the north (runway 19L/R departing south, or 01L/R departing north) means a right-side seat gives you the Las Vegas Strip running along Las Vegas Boulevard, plus the Spring Mountains to the west. Departing northbound, the right side faces east toward Frenchman Mountain and the Lake Mead basin as the plane banks northeast. Notable sights include: Las Vegas Strip (hotels and casinos clearly visible), Hoover Dam and Lake Mead to the southeast, Spring Mountains/Charleston Peak to the west, Red Rock Canyon escarpment.

When landing at Zurich (ZRH), sit on the Left side for the best views. Zurich typically uses runway 14 or 28 for arrivals. On the common runway 14 approach from the northwest, the left side faces south toward the Alps, giving a clear view of the Glarus Alps and the Zurich lakefront. The right side faces north toward the Jura hills, which are far less dramatic. Notable sights include: Lake Zurich stretching southeast from the city, the Swiss Alps on the southern horizon (Glarus Alps, Säntis massif), the Zurich city center and Limmat river, Lake Greifen to the east.

After departing Las Vegas the route tracks northeast over the Colorado Plateau and Rocky Mountains, then crosses the Great Plains and the Great Lakes region (Lake Michigan and Lake Erie may be visible). Approaching Europe, the route crosses Ireland or southern England, then the English Channel, and descends over Germany or France into Switzerland. The mid-Atlantic portion is featureless ocean, but the Greenland ice sheet or southern tip of Greenland may be visible on more northerly routings.
