Kilimanjaro to Zanzibar flight path: JRO to ZNZ

The left side wins because the Kilimanjaro departure delivers a rare, dramatic volcanic peak at close range, a sight more visually striking than the pleasant but comparatively modest coastal approach into Zanzibar on the right.

During takeoff from Kilimanjaro International (JRO), sit on the Left side for the best views. Kilimanjaro airport sits just south of the mountain itself, and as the aircraft climbs out and banks onto its southeasterly course toward Zanzibar, the snow-capped dome of Kilimanjaro and the long ridge of Mount Meru remain visible to the north on the left side. On the descent into Zanzibar, the aircraft crosses the turquoise waters of the Zanzibar Channel before turning onto final approach, giving the right side a good look at the island's western coastline, coral reef patterns, and the dense rooftops of Stone Town near the shoreline. Notable sights include: Zanzibar Channel, coral reef shallows, Stone Town's waterfront, Unguja Island's palm-covered coastline.
