The Pearl River's distinctive meanders and the city's sprawling urban footprint along the river are best seen from the left as the aircraft approaches from the northeast on final descent. Notable sights include: Pearl River (Zhujiang) main channel and meanders, Guangzhou urban core, Baiyun Mountain (north of airport), South China Sea coastline (distant).
