Sit on the Right side of the plane for the best views on flights from Kirtland A.f.b. to Chicago. The right side captures the spectacular Sandia Mountains on departure — one of the most dramatic urban-adjacent mountain views in the American Southwest — plus the Rio Grande valley. The Chicago arrival on the left is excellent but the Sandia departure view is genuinely exceptional and hard to match. On a typical westbound approach from the east, the left side faces south toward downtown Chicago, Lake Michigan's shoreline, and the lakefront skyline. The Willis Tower and the dense Loop district are clearly identifiable on final approach. Notable sights include: Chicago Loop skyline and Willis Tower, Lake Michigan shoreline and lakefront, O'Hare suburban grid of northwest Chicago, Interstate highway network radiating from the city.
