Sit on the Left side of the plane for the best views on flights from Amsterdam to Chengdu. While the right side wins at takeoff for Amsterdam city views, the left side delivers the more dramatic scenery overall — particularly the Tibetan Plateau edge, the Tian Shan and Pamir ranges during the Central Asian transit, and the stunning Longmen Shan approach into Chengdu. Switching to the left side after departure is the better long-haul strategy.

During takeoff from Schiphol (AMS), sit on the Right side for the best views. Schiphol typically departs eastward on runway 36C/18C or uses the Polderbaan (36L) heading northeast, then turns east. A right-side seat gives you Amsterdam city center, the IJ waterway, and the distinctive patchwork of Dutch polders and canals as you climb out. The left side faces open agricultural flatlands toward Haarlem with less visual interest. Notable sights include: Amsterdam city center and canal ring, IJ waterway and Amsterdam harbour, Dutch polder landscape with drainage canals, Almere new town across the IJmeer.

When landing at Shuangliu (CTU), sit on the Left side for the best views. Chengdu Shuangliu typically lands from the east on runway 02L/02R heading north, or from the west on runway 20. Approaching from the northwest on a standard arrival, the left side faces west toward the Longmen Shan fault scarp and the edge of the Tibetan Plateau rising dramatically above the Chengdu Plain. The right side looks east over the flat, hazy Sichuan Basin interior with little visual distinction. Notable sights include: Longmen Shan mountain front rising abruptly from the Chengdu Plain, Minjiang River valley cutting through the foothills, Chengdu urban grid on the plain below, Dujiangyan irrigation system area in the foothills.
